What is ceramic coating?

Ceramic Coatings vs. Waxes / Sealants

Ceramic Coats:
A ceramic coating is a liquid, silica-based polymer solution. When applied to the exterior of a vehicle, it cures and forms a covalent chemical bond with the paint molecules creating a long-lasting, durable layer of protection that repels water and prevents dust from sticking.

As you can see, uncoated clear coat is porous and has "ridges". This allows contaminants to get "locked-in" and makes them difficult to remove.

In contrast, when coated the ceramic coat fills the pores and levels the surface, making it much harder for environmental contaminants to attach.

Visually a ceramic coat makes the paint "pop" and adds a glossy shine, best described as a "glass-like layer". The lifespan of ceramic coat varies but are typically offered in choices of duration lasting 2-3 years, 6 years, 8 years or 10 years if properly maintained.
Waxes:
A wax is an organic method of adding shine and paint protection to your vehicle. The drawback of this method is its durability, with wax requiring multiple applications throughout the year, and typically lasting 6 to 8 weeks depending on conditions. Environmental contaminants, and even harsh soap, can easily break through this thin layer of wax, removing the protective layer and exposing your cars paint to environmental harm.

Sealants:

What about sealants? Sealants are synthetic, polymer-based, and are made to last longer than traditional waxes. Sealants can typically be expected to last 4-6 months, and sometimes up to a year depending on conditions.

As you can see, a ceramic coating is the longest lasting and most durable option to consider when looking to protect your vehicles paint for years to come.
